Sri Lanka being a tropical country. There are many birds which are our locals Other than these birds many foreign birds migrate to this island from various countries , specially during the winter seasons Sri Lanka has become a paradise to the birds. The crow, The crane , the magpie , the cuckoo, the seven sisters , the minah the sparrow, the pigeon, the king fisher, the dove, the jungle fowl , the weaver bird , the hawk, the swallow, the owl, the peacock fall to our local birds.
Most of these small birds eat nuts and berries and fruits. But some birds like the king fisher and the crane are piscatorry. Birds like wood pecker, minah, owls are insectivorous. Birds like parrots, minah and small birds eat berries. The crow is every ready to eat any edible item. So it is called a scavenger.
These birds actually bring a senic beauty to our environment. The chirping, the singing and the voice of the cuckoos bring a pleasant music to our ears. Early in the morning we could hear the cawing of the crow and by that we know a new day has dawned Some belive the singing of the magpie is a bad own. I don’t know whether it is true or not. But it is our duty not to harm these innocent birds which nature has given us.
