        One of the best known reserves in island, covers over 1300 sq kilometers.It is situated in Hambantota district.There are 19 kilometres of sea.Coast covering unspoiled natural beaches.The climate is usually hot and dry.Menik Ganga provides water.The tanks and natural water holes hold water .There are extensive grasslands surrounding the tanks and holes.north east monsoon rains from November to January.Inter monsoonal rains in March to April.There are many elephants,leopards,many species of deer,the sambur,the hog deer, grey monkey etc.There are tortoises, crocodiles, reptiles.There are many beautiful wild,hard flowers.Large numbers of tourists visit this.Some places of yala national park were destroyed by the Tsunami disaster.
